Eye Exams

At Modern Eyes we take pride in providing superior eye care. During your comprehensive eye exam, Dr. Samels and Dr. Keller will assess your eye health, determine glasses and contact prescriptions, and answer any questions you may have regarding your eyes and vision. We strive to meet your visual and ocular health needs, which means asking a number of questions about your daily activities, eye health concerns, and future vision goals.

Ocular health is a very important part of the eye exam at Modern Eyes. Dr. Samels and Dr. Keller are highly trained in the treatment and management of many eye conditions including glaucoma cataracts, eye allergies, dry eye, and macular degeneration. They will discuss with you any recommendations they may have regarding your ocular health. At Modern Eyes we use the latest technology to provide the best care possible for you and your family.

The Right Age for Contacts

Parents spend many years looking forward to a time when their children will be more independent. It’s difficult to care for one or more little people and still care for yourself! When children start growing into teenagers and young adults, parents often agonize over when their children are ready for these newer and greater responsibilities. One question we are often asked is, “What is the right age for contacts?”

Types of Contact Lenses

At Modern Eyes, we use the latest technology in contact lenses. Not only do we fit several modalities of soft contact lenses, but we also utilize gas permeable, scleral, and hybrid contact lenses as well. Depending on your prescription and lifestyle needs Dr. Samels and Dr. Keller will determine what lenses are right for you. All contact lens exams include trial contact lenses, as needed, and information on the wear and care of lenses. New contact lens wearers are taught how to insert, remove, clean, and when to replace lenses. Within the first 90 days of your exam, If you are having issues with your contact lenses for any reason we will gladly see you for a complimentary contact lens check at no additional charge to you.

Cataracts

A cataract is a clouding of the lens inside the eye that leads to a decrease in vision. Left untreated, it is the most common cause of blindness and is conventionally treated with surgery. Vision loss occurs because opacification of the lens obstructs light from passing through and being focused on to the retina at the back of the eye.
