Types of Contacts

At Modern Eyes, we use the latest technology in contact lenses. Not only do we fit several modalities of soft contact lenses, but we also utilize gas permeable, scleral, and hybrid contact lenses as well. Depending on your prescription and lifestyle needs Dr. Samels and Dr. Keller will determine what lenses are right for you. All contact lens exams include trial contact lenses, as needed, and information on the wear and care of lenses. New contact lens wearers are taught how to insert, remove, clean, and when to replace lenses. Within the first 90 days of your exam, If you are having issues with your contact lenses for any reason we will gladly see you for a complimentary contact lens check at no additional charge to you.

Daily Disposable Contact Lenses

Daily disposable contact lenses are lenses that are worn for a single day and then discarded. These lenses tend to be more comfortable, especially for patients experiencing dry eyes, and are healthier than other lens options. Single use lenses also come in a variety of astigmatism and multifocal options.

Extended Wear Contact Lenses

Extended wear contact lenses are available for overnight or continuous wear. Length of extended wear can be up to 30 days, but depends on the type of lens. Although these lenses provide good oxygen breathability, periodic nights with no lenses can be important for good eye health.

Astigmatism Contact Lenses

On top of causing blurred vision, astigmatism can lead to fatigue and eyestrain when left uncorrected. Soft toric lenses can be a good option for patients with astigmatism to achieve freedom from eyeglasses. Toric lenses are available in many modalities, including single use and multifocal varieties.

Multifocal Contact Lenses

Multifocal lenses are designed to provide clear vision at all distances. These lenses are designed for patients that are experiencing the normal age-related decline in near vision called presbyopia. Multifocal lenses are designed to decrease dependence on reading glasses. They are available in several types of soft lenses, including toric soft lenses, as well as gas permeable and hybrid options.

Specialty Contact Lenses

Specialty contacts include gas permeable, hybrid, and scleral lenses. Gas permeable are a breathable hard plastic lens. They are available for patients needing astigmatism and multifocal corrections and can also be used in the management of certain eye conditions like keratoconus. Hybrid lenses are combination of hard and soft and can be used for a patient that needs a gas permeable lens, but struggles with comfort. Scleral lenses are a slightly larger lens that vaults over the cornea and rests on the white part of the eye. Scleral lenses are used for patients with unique eye shapes or other eye conditions.
